Once in exile, at the time of Babylonian Rule(586BC) and Roman Rule(70AD) where Jerusalem was destroyed along with the Temple of God, people could not make this pilgrimage or make any sacrifices. But does the ceasing of the sacrifice mean that the remembrance is also cast away? The Feast Days, and especially the three main Feasts of Passover/Unleavened Bread, Pentecost/Harvest and Tabernacles/Ingathering were pilgrimage feasts.Įxo 23:14-17 Three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year. Once the Temple and the Priesthood ceased in 70AD, the sacrifices were brought to a halt. Leviticus 17:3-9 also reiterates the fact that all sacrifices should be brought to the Tabernacle of God and could not be made anywhere we please. The above verses speak of gathering to “The Place” God chooses, namely Jerusalem to hold the feasts and make sacrifices. Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest: But in the place which the LORD shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee. But when ye go over Jordan, and dwell in the land which the LORD your God giveth you to inherit, and when he giveth you rest from all your enemies round about, so that ye dwell in safety Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there thither shall ye bring all that I command you your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD: And ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your menservants, and your maidservants, and the Levite that is within your gates forasmuch as he hath no part nor inheritance with you. For ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the LORD your God giveth you. A frequent opposing view received regarding the Celebration of the Feasts of God is, to say that “we cannot do it outside of Jerusalem, even if we wanted to do them”.
